Logan Mailloux cleared by NHL, set to make Canadiens debut

Approval comes after Swedish authorities fined Mailloux in 2020

Canadiens prospect Logan Mailloux has been cleared by the NHL and is set to make his National Hockey League debut on Tuesday night.

The approval was needed after Mailloux was fined by Swedish authorities while on loan at SK Lejon in Sweden in November 2020. The fine was related to an incident that occurred in November 2020, when Mailloux was caught in possession of a prohibited substance. Mailloux was also fined by the IIHF and suspended from international competition for two years.

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman's office said that it had met with Mailloux multiple times over the course of the last eight to 10 months. The statement said that the NHL had taken into account all of the information available, including Mailloux's age, the nature of the incident, and his subsequent actions.

The statement said that the NHL believes that Mailloux has learned from his mistake and is committed to being a positive role model for other young players.

Mailloux is expected to make his NHL debut wearing number 94 against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.
